I purchased a $2300 sectional from Havertys. They sold me the Guardsman Protection Plan, assuring me that it covered discoloration and odor caused by pet and bodily fluid stains.

A year later my son vomitted on the piece. I called for Guardsman service. Five Havertys employees including the manager and office manager had told me that Guardsman would, and had to cover it as per the plan. Guardsman refused to cover the odor accompanying the discoloration.

Havertys referred me to Guardsman who referred me back to Havertys. Now Havertys is acknowledging that 5 of their employees told me the wrong thing and that they have been "spoken to".

However the bottom line is that I now have a sectional I cannot use and no one will do anything about it. I will continue this fight and if Haverty's makes good I will update this review.

Guardsman Plan is a Rip Off. Havertys corporate executives gets a huge amount of money from customer sales that have this guardsman plan aka expensive furniture insurance.

My salesperson in Altamonte Springs told me to use permanent markers on our norfolk sofa sectional and then call guardsman. You know my kid did it when i wasnt in the room.

Oh dear! He said Guardsman will give the price paid for a exchange credit on anything you want.

Permanent magic markers . LOL Thatโ€™s a good one!

Looks like guardsman buyers have to become somewhat creative for them to follow through with their coverage. A small can of oil based paint or stain works too. Havertys can give customers a list of incidents their guardsman plan covers.

Get the list and use it to your advantage. Itโ€™s a bit of a process but we now have a new sofa and loveseat after 4 years of having our previous set.

One thing Havertys wonโ€™t tell you is the Guardsman Plan they sell customers is null and void if the furniture has been previously repaired or used in someone else's home who then returned it. Thatโ€™s not new furniture and Guardsman will not cover our reclining sofa since it had a bent frame that was fixed before and recline mechanism was not original manufacturer part.

$300.

Guardsman Plan was a huge loss to us taking advantage of senior citizens limited income. We were not made aware that our new reclining sofa would be something Previously in someone elseโ€™s home and repaired.

Our Havertys salesperson at the Loop in Kissimmee told us if they don't sell this 3rd party Guardsman Plan they are punished having to go to class with Guardsman sales rep Christine who claims she can sell Guardsman plan to every customer and make a lot of money from the commission. Its all about Havertys investors profits and not about the consumer. Go figure.

It's not the Havertys salespeople that are lying about the Guardsman coverages of this protection plan. We received the Guardsman protection paper from our salesperson and this is printed up by Guardsman.

My salesperson read the coverage details right from the Guardsman paper which he then put in my receipt folder. We also had a problem with Guardsman customer service when we called them. The person who was scheduled to come out never showed up. We called them and their customer service person was the rudest person ever.

First she let us know the technician called out sick although we were never notified. Then she offered to buy out the protection plan and refund us $175. to cancel the plan. My husband and I did not understand what she meant so we asked for a supervisor since we paid for this service on our Havertys furniture.

She told me she can reschedule another service appointment in 2 weeks. We told her we will be out of the state and would have to do it after we return. She said our plan would be void since that would make the incident over one month old. We had a scheduled service appointment and it was their Guardsman person who never showed up and now our 5 year plan is void.

These people are crooks and deceive consumers. Please do not buy this plan from any furniture store.

Was told at Haverty's by our sales lady that the Guardsman warranty covers everything! Submitted a claim for our leather sectional because a button on my shorts caught the edge of the sectional and caused a tear.

Guardsman flat out denied it by email just stating "not covered by the plan" Nothing more. DO NOT TRUST THE HAVERTY'S SALESPEOPLE RE: THE PROTECTION PLAN AND DO NOT BUY IT!!!

Mr. or Mrs.

Don't be an ***... your an ***! Obviously your Guardsman protection plan is a complete scam! If it wasn't...

you wouldn't have so many complaints! I am another victim of your dishonest business practices, AND... I am taking my concerns straight to the top, and you WILL deal with me! FYI: Consumers are your best form of advertising your business, and word of mouth can ruin you!

You may want to rethink how you speak to us!

WARNING! DO NOT PURCHASE A GUARDSMAN PROTECTION PLAN FROM HAVERTYS!

Shame on havertys for pushing the guardsman protection plan. It is a scam and havertys is profiting from their customers.

Guardsman and havertys uses every ploy they can to deny legitimate claims. Customers are forced to make numerous phone calls to both companies. I spent almost a month just trying to get havertys and guardsman to come to my home.

We had two issues with a recliner and they approved one, denied the second and did not bother to infom us until the day they arrived, which was 6 weeks after the initial contact. Customers BEWARE!!!

Salespeople Are just doing their job. If they donโ€™t push Havertys guardsman plan and products they get written up by management.

Its easy money for Havertys since the plan is a service they know most customers will forget to use over time.

Its 3rd party and easy money since so many customers are naive and buy into the scam Guardsman protection plan. Smart consumers donโ€™t buy into these scams and use the money for better quality furniture elsewhere.

Guardsman furniture protection plan is a scam. I bought my furniture and was told that the Guardsman plan would cover any issues no matter what it was.....that is until you have the issue and they deny you for whatever they can think of.

Even if the blog poster called within the 5 day time frame, they would find another reason. I called them on three different occasions as I had bought an entire house worth of furniture which was covered. Every time they denied the claim. One issue is that there was a tear in my sofa.

This was the third claim and I had made sure to look up everything in regards to the issue so as not to be denied as had happened on the other two claims. My coverage said it covered tears, rips, holes. After sending in my pictures they claimed that my damage was a puncture and they did not cover punctures. I asked what is the difference between a puncture and a tear, rip, hole.....but there response was it was a puncture and not covered.

It was a tear in the sofa fabric.

They are a complete rip-off. Never purchase this insurance, it is a scam!

Bought my plan from Haverty's as well who sold me on it covering any and all issues. Guardsman denied every and all claims. Will never purchase from them or Haverty's again.

Ok look people....first you have to actually READ your protection plan! You all act like everyone is going out of their way to rip you off, when, like everything in life, there ARE rules, limitations, and restrictions to the protection plan you purchase!

Do you just expect a blanket fix-all that will magically replace or fix your mess ups?? YES, the Guardsman Plan DOES actually cover just about any and all 'uh-oh' moments you might have concerning your furniture. Yes, there is a time limit in which you need to report a claim! If your basement flooded would you call your insurance company 15-30 days after it happened?

Most stains must be treated wothin 14-30 days (at the MOST) if there is any hope of getting the stain lifted....hence one of the main reaaona for the timeframe on reports. Although, It clearly states you have five days FROM WHEN YOU DISCOVER THE PROBLEM....that's actually pretty generous, b/c that means if something happens when you are away, or a kid does something and doesn't tell you right away (or not at all) then you just need report it within 5 days of finding the problem, not 5 days from it happening.

NO, it doesn't cover odor. If you were told this, then you were misled, and that is unfortunate, but did you read your Guardsman paperwork? Because it clearly states it doesn't cover ODOR OR REPEAT BEHAVIORS.

Baby vomit IS covered, the odor is not.

Come on....I'm sorry, but a lot of you just sound spoiled, irresponsible, ***, entitled, or just plain lazy. It's a PROTECTION PLAN, NOT YOUR FAIRY GODMOTHER!

I understand what you're saying but are we to not trust the sales people and managers that sell us the plan?

Must be someone with Guardsman

Sounds like you might be a Guardsman rep trying desperately to repair the bad reputation Guardsman created by scamming hundreds of consumers of this so called protection plan. A lucrative business for Guardsman and the companies selling it as a 3rd party insurance program. Havertys , Ashley's , Kane's etc you should be ashamed to get involved with companies that misrepresent themselves since it will also represent your company.

Also, regarding the odor on the furniture, use a stick of men's deodorant-doesn't matter what kind just make sure it isnt a white solid one the gel solid types work better, run in all around the odor and let it sit for about an hour then wipe clean, the odor will be gone.

Why should anyone resort to using a man's deodorant on a piece of furniture when their Guardsman protection plan should be taking care of it? You must be a Havertys rep looking out for the interest of Guardsman who is taking advantage of consumers that purchase the protection plan.

Nothing like forsaking the reputation of Havertys for a scam company like Guardsman. We always tell our salesperson when we buy furniture to avoid all sales pitches about such scam insurance plans.

If they insist they lose our business and the commission they would have made on a sale. We have never needed a protection plan on furniture knowing well what a rip off they are.

The information that Guardsman provides to Haverty's and it's employees is the same information that is presented to the consumer. I have heard of instances where guardsman willtry to deny claims, it is similar to an insurance claims process.

Anytime you have a Guadsan claim, always contact your Haverty's salesperson first! They can tell you the best way to go about getting results from Guardsman.

The plan is deceptive and dishonesy. I purchased the plan on my leather recliner sofa.

The plan states that it covers rips and tears in the leather. Our sofa got a tear/rip in the leather, and Guardsman will not cover it. When I spoke to them they said that they only cover it if the rip punctures completely through the leather. Our tear did not cut all the way through the leather so they will not cover it.

I read the plan and it does not state that only a punctures rip is covered anywhere in the literature.

Buyer beware!!! They stink and their customer service people are rude.

I purchased a sectional from Haverty's last year and had guardsman protection plan. I have had several spills, etc.

with kids and it has cleaned up perfectly.

Did you read your warranty card? My friend had a problem, but never read her warranty plan and improperly cleaned it and now she has a problem.
